Sylvain Nyandwi is a Ph.D. student in the Center for Advanced Human Paleobiology at George Washington University, in Washington, D.C., and Vice President of Forest of Hope Association. His interests are in primate conservation and behavioral ecology. More specifically, he is interested in assessing species resiliency to forest fragmentation in sympatric chimpanzees and golden monkeys in Rwanda, where he is relating fine-scaled measurements of disturbance to behavior and health. He earned a master’s degree in comparative psychology from West Chester University, and his thesis examined how anthropogenic activities and seasonal fruit availability affect the nesting decisions of chimpanzees in Gishwati. Sylvain joined the Gishwati chimpanzee research project in 2008.
