Samuel UWIMANA is a research assistant with the Gishwati Primate Project and was born in the Rutsiro district in the Western Province of Rwanda, in the vicinity of Gishwati forest. As a community member living near Gishwati, Samuel has experienced first-hand the negative consequences of deforestation. He began conservation work in the forest in 2009 as part of the chimpanzee research team. He has expertise in the flora and fauna of Gishwati as well as extensive training in behavioral and ecological data collection. Samuel completed secondary school in 2004 and holds an advanced certificate of education in languages and literature.
