Dr. Rebecca Chancellor is an Assistant Professor in the Departments of Anthropology & Sociology and Psychology at West Chester University and is West Chester University’s co-director of the Shinehouse Gishwati Research Station. Rebecca began her work in East Africa as a research assistant in 1999 studying the social behavior of patas and vervet monkeys in Laikipia, Kenya. She then undertook a dissertation study of female social relationships of grey-cheeked mangabeys in Kibale National Park, Uganda. After receiving her Ph.D. in 2008 from the Department of Anthropology at the University of California, Davis, she began postdoctoral work with the Great Ape Trust as the principle investigator of a long-term study of the chimpanzees in Gishwati forest, and continues to study this population as the co-director of the Gishwati Primate Project.
